Top 6: Long lost Games/ Game series that need to be brought back.

#6  Onimusha Series

This samurai survival horror series is something we haven't seen since the PS2. Another one of Capcom's unique series that was very action packed and fun to play. It is surprising that we haven't even seen any of this series land on the PSN. I would assume it's likely because of the Keiji Inafune's departure from Capcom as he was the creator of the series.

Aside from the Tecmo Koei games we really don't see any video games from the Sengoku era last gen. While the Onimusha series isn't probably the most demanded HD collection. It is one worth while.

HONORABLE MENTION: Pretty much any of the Capcom games pre last GEN (Resident Evil 2,  Power Stone, Rival Schools, anything Megaman, Viewtiful Joe, Super Ghouls n' Ghosts and Breath of Fire)

One more thing Onimusha the series does have recent release in the form of a browser game in Japan known as ONIMUSHA SOULS. We wont likely see this in America but it does go to show that while Capcom has abandoned many of it's franchises that Onimusha is still one not completely gone.

#5 Legacy of Kain Series

Legacy Of Kain- Sould Reaver Cover.jpg

Another lost relic of the pre HD era is the vampire series Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.  Legacy of Kain was one of the first series you really felt like you were playing a villain. A vampire lord who desires to conqueror the world of Nosgoth. The setting of the series was fitting for this gothic world where vampires roam. Kain had all the powers you could imagine a vampire could have (mist transformation, and charming enemies to do your bidding).

Soul Reaver a side story to Legacy of Kain had you control an unlucky victim of Kain's wrath who is brought back to life to seek vengeance on his former master. Raziel, the protagonist is a Soulreaver (pretty much of a undead soul vampire) who adventures through the astral realms of Nosgoth. With two series going on Raziel and Kain eventually teamed up in the final game of the series Legacy of Kain Defiance.

Unfortunately as you will likely see with most of the games on this list is that Legacy of Kain series likely stopped developement due to the falling out between Silicon Knights and Eidos. One semi good ending to this is that the Legacy of Kain series does live on through  a free to play online game by Square Enix known as Nosgoth. Not exactly the Legacy of Kain, but it shows the series has enough interest to keep it alive in some fashion. According to Wikipedia Nosgoth is currently in open beta.

One more thing, Raziel and Kain were released as downloadable characters in the top down download game LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT.

#4 Eternal Darkness

Another Silicon Knights series, however this one is published by Nintendo. One of the a few mature series published by Nintendo, Eternal Darkness is best described as action-adventure horror game. It's best known element is it's sanity meter which when lowered caused the game to begin to play tricks on you. Nothing is more scary then a game telling your memory card is corrupted or your volume has suddenly turned down. The game was full of clever ideas.

Eternal Darkness contained not one protagonist but several. You start off as Alexandra Roivas looking into the murder of her grandfather. After find secret rooms inside of her grandfathers mansion along with a book she begins to learn the stories of our other protagonists.

Nintendo tries to cater toward the younger audiences, however I think the company should pick back up their ideas to find a way to please all ages. Eternal Darkness is a very unique idea that gamers brings up enough that sometime soon someone will copy it and make a successful franchise out of it. Nintendo act now!

A few of the former developers haven't given up on making a spiritual sequel to the series known as Shadows of the Eternal. In 2014, the former Silicon Knight developer launched a crowd funding company to get the game developed, but after two Kickstarter campaigns the company failed to meet it's goals. On October 30th Quantum Entanglement Entertainment announced it would take over development of the game which as of right now is the last we have heard about it.

#3 Parasite Eve

A series that we haven't seen a true successor to since the Playstation One. Parasite Eve is a Action RPG. The game took place in Manhattan as the NYPD rookie Aya Brea as she faced off against Eve and other mitochondria monsters that causing havoc in New York. What really made the game unique was that not only did the game have these RPG elements in a semi survival horror game, but eventually gain powers of your own going from simple rookie cop to super power badass.

Parasite Eve did get a sort of sequel story game for the PSP, that was not under the Parasite Eve title at all. The game was instead named 3rd Birthday. The game had Aya Brea voiced by Yvonne Strahovski and Kyle from Parasite Eve 2 voiced by Jensen Ackles.

#2 The Suffering
The Suffering coverart.jpg

A psychological horror game about a man trapped in prison after being convicted of murdering his family. This series was only really prominent in the Playstation 2, and Xbox era. The game had you fight off monsters that designed from prison executions. For example a monster with needles extruding from its body representing lethal injection. The game had a variety of weapons from lead pipes to machine guns. Unlike most horror games this series included a karma system that determined outcome of the game.

Fun Fact the creature were designed by Stan Winston famous for movie monsters such as Predator, The Thing, and Aliens.

While some of the other games on this list have manged to get a partial reincarnation Suffering seems to have been forgotten. The Suffering is a Midway published game. Midway filed for Bankruptcy in 2009.

#1 PSI-OPS THE MIND-GATE CONSPIRICY

Likely a game no one expected on this list was Psi-Ops. Psi-Ops was a action game that gave you psychic powers to play with throughout the game. I mean is it the best game in the world? Nah but one of the first games to really utilize Havok 2.0 and ragdoll physics and just a load of fun. The first game you played and thought "Man, one day they'll make a really good Star Wars Jedi game with this engine. I don't have much to say about this game because I'll let this video do all the talking for me.
